Steven Holl Architects (Andrew Blauvelt, curator)

Steven Holl formed his studio in New York in 1976. One of America’s most innovative architects, he has realized numerous acclaimed commissions, including the Chapel of St. Ignatius at Seattle University (1997), the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki (1998), the Cranbrook Institute of Science in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (1998), Simmons Hall at MIT (2002), and Ralph Rapson Hall at the University of Minnesota (2002). Holl studied architecture at the University of Washington and did postgraduate work at the Architectural Association, London. His projects have been exhibited at such venues as the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and the Henry Art Gallery, Seattle. In 2002, he received the National Design Award for Architecture from the Smithsonian Institution. Turbulence House (2005) was selected as one of Architectural Record’s Houses of 2005.
